Police investigating a 911 call describing a shooting early Sunday at the College of New Jersey believe the call may have been a hoax.
Police received the call shortly after 6 a.m. reporting a shooting at Travers Hall, and e-mails were sent to students asking them to remain in their locations while the investigation continued.
Three follow-up e-mails were sent and eventually students were told they could move about the campus, although security checkpoints had been set up, according to Matthew Golden, the school's director of communications.
By late morning, a message posted on the university's Web site said investigators "believe the original report may have been inaccurate."
"Other than the 911 call, we have no evidence that I know of that a shooting actually occurred," Golden said.Posted by <> at 11:31 AM

Police at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) responded shortly after 6 a.m. to an anonymous 911 call reporting a possible shooting on campus Sunday. The call is under investigation, but police could not confirm the incident.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the Office of Public Affairs announced that authorities had completed their investigation and did not find anything that suggested a shooting.
Students were first notified of the incident at 6:40 a.m by e-mail. There have been subsequent e-mails in the following hours that said New Jersey State Police and TCNJ Campus Police were investigating the area of Travers Hall. ¶
"It has come to our attention within the last few moments that there has been a shooting on campus," said an early e-mail from TCNJ's Office of Public Affairs. "No further details are available at this time. As soon as more is known, additional information will be shared with the community. In the interim, please be vigilant and safe."
"Other than the 911 call, we have no evidence that I know of that a shooting actually occurred," Assistant Director for Public Information Matthew Golden told the Associate Press. ¶
