Biotech Business Practicum
Introduction
Instructor: Alicia Löffler
Fall and Spring Quarters
You learn by doing. Leadership in biotechnology, unlike any other industry-specific sector, demands depth of knowledge and hands-on experience from their managers. Biotech Business Practicum gives you an opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts you learned in class with the real practical needs of the biotechnology firm. Students, individually or as part of a team, work on a project for a biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device or venture capital concern, under the mentorship of a Kellogg faculty member and an industrial mentor.
Who should take the course? Top Reasons
This course provides the student with practical, real-life experience in the biotech sector. It is particularly useful as a resume builder for students wanting to enter the biotech/pharmaceutical sector for the first time or for students preparing for their internships or job experiences. (slides)
How are projects selected?
Students have two options for selecting projects:
- Center driven: Students select from a list of projects offered by the partner company through the Center for Biotechnology.
- Student driven: Students secure their own company/ project. If the student chooses this option, they need to notify the instructor three weeks before classes start. This time is required for the academic and industrial mentors to coordinate efforts and define the projects.
All projects need to be approved by the academic instructor by the first week of classes.
